Looking for a cosmetic dentist?

When choosing a cosmetic dentist what should you be looking for?

Cosmetic dentistry is defined as “any type of dental procedure which enhances the patient’s teeth and their smile — thus improving a person’s overall appearance and self-confidence.” Do you have teeth that are uneven, crooked, discoloured, missing, short, long or crowded, and you are not sure how to go about finding a dentist who can help you? You have come to the right place!

Many cosmetic dentists attend conferences and courses through groups like the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD). Attending such courses demonstrates that the dentist is keeping up to date with the latest technologies and treatments. Dr Rashid at Time Dental is a fully qualified member of the BACD and has a fountain of knowledge regarding cosmetic dentistry.

Membership in dental societies shows a commitment to quality cosmetic dentistry. In the UK, look out for memberships to organisations such as the British Dental Association (BDA) and the British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF). Those that belong to the BACD demonstrate clinical excellence through continuing professional development.

As well as creating your beautiful smile, a good cosmetic dentist should be concerned about your overall general dental health, and ask you questions to gain information on you overall medical history.

When considering cosmetic dentistry, you want to choose a dentist who you feel comfortable with, one who understands what you are looking to achieve.

A cosmetic dentist provides you with clear well explained solutions and realistic expectations. You have a right to know and fully understand what is going to happen in your own mouth.

During your consultation, ask lots of questions. A good cosmetic dentist should be able to show you pictures of their past work, with before and after shots. Powerpoint presentations, photo albums and testimonials should also be at your disposal and your dentist should be able to produce them willingly at your request.

A cosmetic dentist takes the time to listen to your concerns and goals for your teeth and smile.  You should never feel rushed into making any decisions.

The practice environment as well as the team who will be looking after you, are also important things to consider when choosing your cosmetic dentist.

Find a team who are friendly, polite, and knowledgeable and who genuinely care about you and your smile.  Ask a team member to give you a tour of the practice. Do they have a separate sterilisation room? Does the practice look clean and tidy?  Amanda is the practice manager and guest host at Time Dental, and will be more than happy to answer any of your queries or show you around the practice.
