Research from charity Action on Sugar claims that many young people think that so called energy drinks will help them with sports performance- not aware that some brands contain as much as 20 teaspoons of sugar.
The charity tested 197 energy drinks, with the worst drink being Rockstar Punched Energy and Guava Tropical flavour with 20 teaspoons of sugar in a 500ml can. Lucozade Pink Energy Lemonade had 18 teaspoons of sugar per 500ml can. Both these drinks are endorsed by sports stars.
Far from being healthy the energy drinks will get children used to sugars and put them at risk of childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, limb aputation and kideny dialysis.
The amount of sugar consumed in these drinks also puts your dental health at risk.-causing rapid tooth decay when consumed on a regular basis.
