The MOST important dental health habit…

National Smile Month at Time Dental in Farnham, Surrey

As part of National Smile Month here at Time Dental, we’re exploring the 3 key messages that the campaign is promoting. The first key message to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy is:

Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste

This might seem obvious but there is a huge percentage of the population who brush only once a day.

Why bother brushing twice a day? The reason for brushing at least twice a day is because within hours of brushing your teeth the harmful plaque bacteria, that causes tooth decay and gum disease, begins to reform. Brushing twice a day will keep your teeth and gums healthy. Effective teeth brushing not only removes the harmful bacteria but it also removes food debris that the bacteria feed on as well as superficial staining. This will help keep your breath fresh and your gnashers looking white!

Why a fluoride toothpaste? The hard outer surface of your tooth is called enamel. A toothpaste that contains Fluoride helps to keep the enamel strong which helps make it resistant to acid attack.

One little tip for you: do NOT rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste. You will just be washing away the benefit of the toothpaste.

If you use a mouth wash, use it at a different time to teeth brushing.

Keep a look out for the next 2 important ways to keep a healthy mouth.

Until next time…….
