What a great question! Dark shadows under eyes give a very tired look. Using makeup can reduce the shadows to a certain degree but they will still be visible in certain lighting.
We call these dark shadows under eyes tear troughs. Tear troughs are the grooves or hollows that sit between the lower eye lid and the cheek. They can appear as early as your twenties and gets more obvious as we age. As we get older the fat under the skin (subcutaneous) is lost in this area and the skin becomes thinner. As this happens the overlying skin sinks down giving the classic depression line and the tired look.
The good news is this can be treated with dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is the product used that is naturally produced by the body. When injected into this area, it creates a lifting effect and reduces the tear trough groove/ depression. Now when the light hits the face in the area the shadows are not so prominent and you don’t look so tired.
As with any type of facial aesthetic treatment, redness, bruising and swelling can occur following treatment. When treated by a skilled clinician (like Dr Rashid), who understands the detail of facial anatomy and using a technique that uses cannulas rather than needles, the risk is lower.
Tear trough treatment is an excellent way of freshening the face. When placed by an experienced clinician, this will have a fantastic rejuvenating effect which will make the face less tried looking. The treatment lasts for 10-12 months at which time a further course of treatment is required.
