Regular dental examinations to ensure a healthy mouth

At Time Dental, we believe a healthy mouth requires regular dental examinations. With our preventive approach, your on-going dental care is the best way to ensure that you keep your teeth for life. Regular check-ups are the most common reason to visit your dentist, giving us the chance to fully assess your mouth and keep any issues at bay.

Why do I need routine dental care?

Regular dental examinations help us to catch things early and give you the most up to date techniques to ensure that your mouth stays healthy. We believe prevention is better than cure, so it is important for us to take a look at your teeth and gums at least twice a year. We can spot potential problems before they can get worse, avoiding the need for further treatment.

At your six month dental examination, we assess the health of your teeth, gums, the tissues that line the mouth, the tongue and your chewing muscles. We also take X-rays to help us see in between the teeth so that we can make sure they are healthy too.

What does a dental check up involve?

During your appointment, we examine your mouth and assess your teeth, gums, soft tissues, and mouth. We look out for signs of decay, infection, a misaligned bite, and oral cancer or other abnormalities.

In addition to our visual examination, we may take dental X-rays to give a more detailed view of your teeth, jawbone, and surrounding structures. Using X-rays, we can detect issues such as cavities, impacted teeth, bone loss, and structural abnormalities that may not be visible during a visual examination alone.

We ask if you have had any problems since your last visit and give you the chance to raise any concerns you may have. To help you keep your teeth in tip-top condition at home, we will advise the best cleaning techniques and share tips on diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption.

If we find anything that requires treatment, we will create your treatment plan, including the best course of action and expected costs.

Frequently asked questions

What does a dental check-up include?

A comprehensive dental check-up includes a thorough assessment of various aspects of your oral health. During your appointment, our experienced dental team will examine your teeth, gums, and oral tissues to identify any signs of dental issues or abnormalities. This examination involves visually inspecting each tooth for signs of decay, damage, or wear, as well as assessing the health of your gums for signs of inflammation, infection, or gum disease.

How often should I see the dentist?

You should aim to see your dentist for a check-up twice a year. However, you may not need to see us every six months and your dentist will let you know when you need to come back for your next check-up. If you have any problems between check-ups please phone us to arrange an earlier appointment.

Does a dental check-up hurt?

A dental check-up shouldn’t hurt. During your visit, we carefully check your teeth and gums for signs of decay or infection, using small and sterile tools. You may feel some discomfort if we need to scrape one of your teeth or use suction, but this is short-lived.

How often should you visit the dentist for cleaning?

Regular cleanings help remove plaque and tartar build-up, which can contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems. However, the frequency of your dental visits may vary depending on factors such as your age, overall oral health, and any existing dental conditions. Your dentist will assess your individual needs and recommend an appropriate schedule for follow-up visits to ensure that your oral health remains in top condition.
