What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a discreet orthodontic system which uses a series of clear and comfortable aligners to gradually move the positions of your teeth. It is the perfect solution for people who want to improve the aesthetics of their smile but are worried their appearance will be affected during treatment.

A very simple straightening treatment, all you need to do to ensure Invisalign is successful is to wear your clear aligners for at least 21 hours per day, allowing the gentle forces to work on your teeth. The treatment blends perfectly into your lifestyle and routines, and needs no changes to your diet as you can remove your aligners for eating and drinking.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

To begin your Invisalign treatment journey, you have a full consultation with one of our friendly expert team. During this, we assess your mouth, ensure you are suitable for Invisalign and discuss all your options with you in detail, including 0% finance payments.

We take digital scans and images of your mouth and teeth, which are used to create your comprehensive and bespoke treatment plan. We can use innovative digital Invisalign software to show you exactly how your teeth will move during your Invisalign treatment, and even a preview of your new smile!

When you are happy with your predicted new smile, your custom clear aligners are created and sent to us at the practice. We see you for a fitting appointment, showing you how to insert and remove your aligners effectively. Each aligner needs to be worn for 2 weeks before changing to the next set, to gradually control the amount and timing of movement on your teeth. We see you for regular appointments in the practice to ensure a great final outcome.

When you have worn all the aligners in the series, your treatment is complete and your new straight smile is ready! We make sure you are happy with your results and give you a final retainer to wear overnight to keep your teeth straight for the long term.

Frequently asked questions

Does Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign is designed with comfort in mind, from the precise and snug fit of the aligners to the lack of any metal that could irritate your mouth. There is also no need for your braces to be tightened, which is often the most painful part of traditional orthodontic treatment.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The length of your Invisalign treatment depends on your individual case, and varies from person to person. Most Invisalign treatments are completed in 9-18 months, but more complex cases may take longer.

Can Invisalign improve my oral health?

During Invisalign treatment, the removable aligners allow you to maintain good oral hygiene, reducing the risk of decay and gum disease. Your oral health can be further improved after treatment, as when teeth are properly aligned they are easier to keep clean, and gum health is often much better.

How many Invisalign aligners do I need?

The number of Invisalign aligners you need will be determined by your digital treatment plan. Invisalign’s high tech software provides a computer simulation of your predicted treatment, giving an indication of how many aligners will be required for your ideal results. More complex cases will require more aligners to ensure the best outcome.

Will Invisalign affect the way I talk?

When you first begin your Invisalign treatment, you may notice your speech changes slightly or you develop a slight lisp, but this does not last long. You will be talking clearly again before long.

Can Invisalign be used for teenagers?

Invisalign is an excellent orthodontic option for teenagers, giving them the chance to straighten their teeth without obvious metal braces. Please talk to us if you would like to find out more about Invisalign for teens.

What can Invisalign be used for?

Invisalign can be used to correct a wide variety of mild to moderate orthodontic issues. It is very effective for crowded, crooked or misaligned teeth, and can also be used to close small gaps and correct bite problems.

Why do I need to wear a retainer?

Retainers are considered the final stage of all orthodontic treatment, and are used to keep your teeth in their new straight positions. Teeth have a habit of moving out of place, so wearing your retainer overnight for the long-term keeps your teeth straight and prevents relapse.
